Privacy notice
This notice explains what personal information ConsumeX collects through this website, why we collect it, how long we keep it and what you can ask us to do with it. It is written to meet section 18 of the Protection of Personal Information Act, 2013 (POPIA).

What we collect, and when
This site collects personal information in one place only: the enquiry form on the home page. Nothing else on the site asks you for personal information, and we do not run advertising or analytics trackers.
When you send an enquiry
- Your name
- Your company, if you give one
- Your email address
- Your telephone number, if you give one
- What your enquiry is about, and the message you write
- The IP address the enquiry came from, and your browser's user-agent string
The IP address and user-agent are recorded for one reason: to recognise and limit automated submissions. They are not used to profile you and are not shared.
When you simply read the site
No cookie is set and no account is created. Our hosting provider keeps ordinary web server logs, which include IP addresses, for operational and security purposes.
Two fonts are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com), which means Google receives the request for those files and, with it, your IP address. We set no cookie through them and receive nothing back.
The Hello Customer page at consumex.co.za/hello is served through this site from our own application. If you sign in there, that application's own terms and privacy handling apply to your account.
Why we use it, and on what basis
We use what you send us to answer your enquiry, to prepare a quotation or specification, and to keep a record of the conversation. The lawful basis is that processing is necessary to take steps at your request before entering into a contract, and for our legitimate interest in responding to business enquiries.
We do not sell personal information. We do not send marketing to an address that only ever came from an enquiry, unless you ask us to.
Who else sees it
- Our hosting provider, which operates the servers this site runs on.
- Our own staff, limited to the people who need it to answer you.
- Nobody else, unless the law requires it or you ask us to involve someone.
Some of that processing takes place outside South Africa. Where it does, we rely on the recipient being subject to laws or binding rules that give effect to principles for lawful processing that are substantially similar to POPIA's.
How long we keep it
Enquiries are kept for three years from the last contact, so we can pick a conversation up where it left off and so we can evidence what was quoted. If a contract follows, the record is kept for as long as the law requires records of that contract to be kept. You can ask us to delete an enquiry sooner.
How it is protected
The site is served only over HTTPS. Enquiries are stored on our own service, not on a third-party form provider, and are readable only behind an authenticated admin session. Access is limited to staff who need it.
Your rights
Under POPIA you may ask us to confirm what personal information we hold about you, to correct it if it is wrong, to delete it where we have no lawful reason to keep it, and to stop using it for a particular purpose. You may also object to processing on the grounds POPIA allows.
Write to the Information Officer at the address above. We answer within a reasonable period and, for a formal request for access, in the manner and timeframes the Promotion of Access to Information Act, 2000 (PAIA) sets out.
If you are not satisfied with how we have handled your information, you may complain to the Information Regulator (South Africa) — inforegulator.org.za, complaints.IR@justice.gov.za. You do not have to raise it with us first, although we would rather you did.
Access to information (PAIA)
ConsumeX handles requests for access to records under PAIA. A request should be made in writing to the Information Officer at the address above, must give enough detail to identify the record and the requester, and must state the right the requester is seeking to exercise or protect. Our PAIA manual is available on request at no charge, by email to the same address.
Changes to this notice
If this notice changes, the date at the top changes with it. Material changes affecting how we use information already collected are notified to the people affected.
